Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred Friday evening in the Ebenezer Fire District of Iredell County, North Carolina.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the scene at approximately 8:20 p.m. on May 1 along Whites Farm Road near Ingram Road, just outside Statesville. Preliminary findings indicate that a 2013 Ford Edge traveling southbound crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, identified as 57-year-old Michael Alan Gandy of Statesville, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders were unable to revive him.
The driver of the Ford, identified as a 17-year-old male from Statesville, was not injured in the crash. Due to his age, authorities have not released his name.
Investigators reported that impairment does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the collision. However, speed is believed to have played a role in the circumstances leading up to the crash. The exact sequence of events remains under review as troopers continue their investigation.
Officials confirmed that potential charges against the juvenile driver are under consideration. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is working in consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed.
