It is with deep respect and sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Joseph “Rick” Coyle, age 58, of Marion, Kentucky, who died on April 30, 2026, at his home. Rick dedicated much of his life to public service, faithfully protecting and serving his community throughout his distinguished career in law enforcement.
Rick served as a deputy with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office and worked as a School Resource Officer for the Crittenden County School District, where he played an important role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff. Prior to his time in Kentucky, he retired in 2019 from the Chicago Police Department after years of dedicated service. He also served with the Will County, Illinois Sheriff’s Department earlier in his career, continuing a lifelong commitment to law enforcement and public safety.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Jami Coyle of Marion, Kentucky; his sister, Annamaria (Bob) Iacullo of Chicago, Illinois; and his nieces, Jessica (Matt Varner) Iacullo, Marissa (Andrew Derge) Iacullo, and Amanda Iacullo. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marguerite Garner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Carmela Coyle, and his father-in-law, Roy Garner.
Rick will be remembered not only for his professional dedication, but also for his integrity, loyalty, and deep care for those around him. His service to multiple communities left a lasting impact on colleagues, students, and residents alike.
A service honoring Rick’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Rocket Arena in Marion, Kentucky. Private committal services will follow.
