Jane (Harvey) Babine of South Boston passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the age of 76. Born in Boston on May 24, 1949, she was the cherished daughter of the late William and Clara (Walker) Harvey. Jane’s life was defined by devotion to her family, dedication to her community, and a warmth that endeared her to all who knew her.
A loving and devoted mother, Jane took great pride in her daughter, Laurel Babine, and found immense joy in her role as “Grammy” to her beloved granddaughter, Claire McMillen. Her family was the center of her world, and she nurtured those relationships with unwavering care, kindness, and strength.
Jane is also lovingly remembered by her brother, William Harvey and his wife Ria of Ohio; her nephew, Anthony Harvey and his wife Ashley, along with their children, Will and Wes of Illinois; and her dear friends, Judy DiMaggio and Judi Cassino. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, William “Duba” Joyce, and her lifelong friend, Evelyn O’Malley.
For many years, Jane was a dedicated employee of South Boston Savings Bank and the South Boston Neighborhood House, where she built lasting relationships and contributed meaningfully to her community. She was an active member of the South Boston Irish American Club and the Castle Island Association, reflecting her deep connection to the neighborhood she loved.
Jane will be remembered for her generous spirit, steady presence, and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her legacy lives on through her family, her friendships, and the many lives she touched.
Visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, South Boston, on Friday, May 1, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Brigid Church, 841 East Broadway, South Boston, on Saturday, May 2, at 12:00 p.m., followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane’s memory to South Boston Neighborhood House Senior Programs.
