It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Robert Lee Urchike, a devoted family man, respected educator, and cherished member of his community. At 84 years old, Robert’s life was marked by dedication, integrity, and a lasting impact on the many lives he touched.
Born on June 20, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to Audrey and Ella Urchike, Robert built a life rooted in learning, service, and family. A graduate of Beecher High School, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from Arizona State University. His passion for education led him to a long and meaningful career teaching and coaching at Beecher High School in Michigan and Marcos de Niza High School in Arizona, where he mentored students for more than three decades.
Beyond the classroom, Robert found joy as a professional bass fisherman, embracing both competition and the tranquility of the outdoors. Yet, above all his accomplishments, he was a loving husband to Patricia Kay Terry, whom he married in 1963, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for his family and friends. His legacy lives on through his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Urchike family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the many memories shared and in the enduring love Robert gave so freely.
A visitation and funeral service will be held in May, with details provided by the family. In honor of Robert’s life, donations may be made to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
