An 18-year-old, Brailen Weaver, has been accused of carrying out a deadly bank robbery in Berea, Kentucky, on April 30, 2026. According to investigators, Weaver entered a US Bank branch at approximately 2 p.m. and, shortly after arriving, allegedly opened fire. Two employees—Brian Switzer, 42, and Breanna Edwards, 35—were fatally shot during the incident. Authorities say Weaver then moved behind the counter, searched through cash drawers, and fled the scene.
Later that same evening, investigators report that Weaver posted a meme on Instagram depicting stacks of cash with the caption, “I pledge allegiance to da bag.” This post, along with other evidence, drew attention from law enforcement. Officials were able to connect Weaver to the crime through multiple leads, including a silver BMW he had previously listed for sale on Facebook. Surveillance footage from the bank also reportedly showed clothing that matched images found on his social media accounts.
Law enforcement soon located the vehicle, leading to a high-speed pursuit. During the chase, Weaver allegedly drove at speeds reaching up to 130 miles per hour before crashing the car in Lexington. He then attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by police early the following morning.
Weaver now faces significant legal consequences. Federal charges include armed bank robbery and firearm offenses resulting in death, which carry the possibility of life imprisonment or even the death penalty. In addition, Kentucky state authorities are pursuing separate murder charges.
The incident has left the Berea community shaken. Two lives were lost in a sudden and violent act, and the victims’ families are now facing an immense and painful loss as the legal process moves forward.
