It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Evan Harmon, MHI, RHIA, a distinguished alumnus of the Health Services Administration Program, Class of 2009. Evan exemplified the very best of the health information management (HIM) profession through his integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Throughout his career, Evan made meaningful contributions that advanced both the practice and perception of HIM. His service in leadership roles within professional organizations such as KHIMA and BGHIMSS reflected not only his expertise but also his dedication to strengthening the field and supporting his colleagues. He was widely respected for his forward-thinking approach and his ability to inspire innovation in a constantly evolving healthcare landscape.
Perhaps most impactful was Evan’s commitment to mentorship and education. He devoted significant time to guiding students in the HSA/HCA program, frequently serving as a site supervisor and providing invaluable real-world experience. His passion for developing future professionals left a lasting impression on countless students, many of whom carry forward his values and enthusiasm in their own careers.
Evan’s legacy is defined not only by his professional achievements but also by the generosity, kindness, and encouragement he extended to others. He believed deeply in the importance of community, collaboration, and continuous growth, and he embodied those principles in every aspect of his work.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. Evan’s contributions to the program, the profession, and the broader healthcare community will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed, and his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
