Jaylen Cole Otto, 12, of rural Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 5:47 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. His passing has brought deep sorrow to his family, friends, school community, and church family.
Born on May 13, 2013, in Urbana, Illinois, Jaylen was the beloved son of Eldon Ray and Kendra Eileen (Miller) Otto. Though his time on earth was far too short, he touched many lives with his kindness, energy, and joyful spirit.
Jaylen was a 7th-grade student at Arthur Christian School, where he was active in both academics and athletics. He played first base and outfield on the baseball team and served as a point guard on the basketball team. He was known as a hardworking teammate who brought enthusiasm and encouragement to those around him.
He was also an active member of Solid Rock Church in Sullivan, where he participated in the youth group and enjoyed being part of a faith-filled community. His involvement reflected a young life grounded in love, friendship, and growing faith.
Jaylen will be remembered most for his vibrant personality and loving heart. He was a devoted brother to his sister, Ava Grace Otto, and deeply cherished time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, and riding his four-wheeler, always embracing life with excitement and energy. Known for his appetite, laughter, and constant smile, Jaylen brought joy wherever he went.
He is survived by his parents, Eldon and Kendra Otto; his sister, Ava Grace Otto; his grandparents; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by several great-grandparents and his uncle, Marlin Otto.
