It is with solemn attention that authorities in Nakhon Sawan province, Thailand, have reported a fatal domestic incident in Phai Sali district that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man following a confrontation with his father, retired police officer.
The incident occurred on 2 May 2026 in Ban Takrut Phiban village, where police were called after reports of gunfire inside a residence.
Responding officers discovered the victim, identified as Natthaphon, with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and arm, and a knife still in his right hand.
Eight spent 9mm shell casings were recovered at the scene, indicating multiple shots fired.
The suspected shooter, a 64-year-old retired police captain, remained at the location and surrendered voluntarily, later confirming the victim was his son and handing over a registered 9mm firearm.
Witnesses reported hearing a heated argument followed by rapid gunfire, with relative fleeing the home in distress to seek help.
Investigators stated the son had a history of drug-related issues and prior arrests, and tensions within the household had escalated over financial disputes.
According to police accounts, the victim had demanded money from his mother earlier in the day and allegedly became aggressive when refused, attempting to threaten family members with a knife and reach for his father’s weapon.
The father told investigators, “If I hadn’t done it, he would have killed me,” describing the shooting as an act during a moment of immediate danger.
Neighbors described the retired officer as generally calm, but said the son had frequently caused disturbances when seeking money.
Authorities have detained suspect for questioning and initially charged him with murder, while confirming firearm was previously issued during his service and legally kept at the residence.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials review evidence and statements to determine circumstances surrounding the incident.
